Northumbria Coalition
Against Crime is an independent registered charity which seeks to reduce
crime and fear of crime and so improve the quality of life for those living
and working in the North East through a working partnership between the
community, public, private and voluntary sectors.
The Coalition was formed in 1990, to reduce crime and fear of crime
for people living and working in the North East. We are a multi-agency partnership
involving the community, the police, statutory and voluntary agencies, local
authorities, business and commerce. We work throughout Northumberland and
Tyne and Wear.
Our work is divided into two complimentary areas:
Our YOUTH PROGRAMMES promote young people as the solution, not the problem.
We work towards long term change by challenging attitudes and behaviour,
educating and supporting. Our Youth Programmes comprise the Odysseus Mentoring
Project, Literacy and Numeracy training, the original Attitude to Rules
project and Attitude to Rules Two.
The NORTH EAST RETAIL CRIME PARTNERSHIP (NERCP) works to deter prolific,
persistent, professional shop thieves by intelligence led targeting. Together
the Youth Team and the NERCP run the Retail Victim Initiative, based on
the model of restorative justice, which puts young offenders in contact
with proxy victims to examine the consequences of their actions.
